SNOWBALLS® e-Learning Project
Last updated: 31 March 2015

This page briefly introduces the e-learning project. The main website is available at http://snowballs.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/, but since the system is still under development it can only be accessed from within the University of Tokyo network.

What is SNOWBALLS?

SNOWBALLS stands for "Self Navigation Web-based Literacy Learning System" and is an e-learning system we originally developed. Primarily developed for language learning, ensuring learner motivation is one of the biggest challenges. Through collaborative development with students we developed a game-style learning environment with various motivational and interactive elements.

Class (Part of the "Creative Engineering Project")

The first SNOWBALLS class was set up to involve students in the development of our new e-learning platform. With their help, we have been able to develop a platform with many unique features that make the platform more useful for them and that keeps them motivated when learning.
In the current classes, we ask the students to make educational content to fill our e-learning system. Both Japanese and international students are welcome, and in the classes they work together to create learning modules that are both informative and interesting. Collaborating in an multinational and multidisciplinary team, discussing about education, and continuously reviewing and improving your own work and that of others are important aspects of our course.

You can find the course information for the 2015 Summer semester here: Syllabus (En/Jp). If you are interested: just come to the classroom Eng.Bldg.8, 324C (follow arrows from 2F), on Tuesday from 14:55 (starting April 7th) or come to the orientation meeting on Thursday 9 April 2015, 15:10- in Eng.Bldg.2, 1F, room 212.
